Role Description

You will join a small but exclusive team of developers working on a variety of cutting edge digital publishing and social systems projects and a leading software platform.

The projects you will work on include, but are not limited to:

• A Microsoft .NET based software platform, written in C#, that is used to create high-end commercial publishing portals with tightly integrated user forums and social publishing functionality.
• Numerous niche community sites that are built, maintained and hosted for clients, that have between 10,000 and 100,000 active user acconts and contain millions of items of user generated content.
• A cutting edge social utility / social networking project, which is currently under development as a joint venture, which delivers social networking functionality without friends lists (don't ask how!).
• A unique social publishing service that aims to revolutionize aspects of the publishing industry by enabling communities of independent users and professional journalists to collaborate to create their own profitable online publications without a publisher.
• Many other miscellaneous activities related to software products developed in-house and Web hosting technologies.

The successful candidate will be afforded excellent opportunities to grow their technical skills in many different areas, and will also benefit from working on high profile projects for brand name clients such as Microsoft. Furthermore, the new team member will also have the chance to develop expertise in various esoteric but increasingly important aspects of Web development, such as social design methodologies and social algorithm application.

Working Environment

You will be based in Brondesbury Park, North West London, a few minutes walk from Willesden Green underground station on the Jubliee line (8 minutes from Baker Street, 12 minutes from Bond Street and Central line, and 33 minutes from Canary Wharf), and with parking available if you wish to drive. You will join a small, but highly skilled and experienced team working with a permanent startup mentality (although the company in question is not a startup). This is not a corporate job – what matters here is how you can contribute to the team and the systems under development, not what you wear.

The office and working conditions are optimized for comfort and coding (peace and Zen!).

Remuneration

Salary will be dependent upon experience. Positive contributions can also be recognised through share options.

What Candidate is being Sought?

We have an immediate requirement to increase developer capacity. It is absolutely key to us that we achieve this by hiring someone who can become a long-term and integral team member. We will have some flexibility as to the experience of the candidate, but...

As a minimum, the candidate must generally be

• A strong natural programmer
• Have a strong grasp of Web technology in general
• Be able to prove a long-term interest in programming, technology and the Web
• Have strong intelligence and ability, which is proven either through work performed (whether for an employer, or within the context of private projects), strong academics, or both

The key IT skills we require are

• C#
• SQL
• ASP.NET
• XHTML, DHTML and Javascript
• Associated developer skills, e.g. IIS, Visual Studio etc

Additional technical skills that we value are

• Server administration
• Network administration (can you twiddle with CISCO IOS?)
• MySQL AND SQL Server
• XML and associated technologies
• XAML, Silverlight, WPF etc
• Graphic design skills
