what is WYKI BUILDER?

WYKI BUILDER is a Microsoft .NET based platform for the rapid development and management of wyki style sites.

what is wyki.com?

Wyki.com is a service being developed by the team that pioneered wyki technology and the common format characteristics of wyki sites. The purpose is to provide publishers, organizations and even individuals with their own public and private wyki.com sub-domains, such as business.wyki.com, yoga.wyki.com or mycorp.wyki.com, together with the necessary Microsoft based platform software and optional hosting needed to create and operate wyki sites.

The wyki.com service is not ready quite yet, but the underlying technology has already been used to produce many successful mainstream sites now running in production mode on non-wyki domains that serve from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of users - for a very recent wyki example, see www.startups.co.uk).

Initial sites operating from the wyki.com domain will soon be launched in association with brand name publishers, corporates and other organizations that have communities they wish to enhance, expand or monetize.

Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in creating wyki sites for your communities.

wyki faq

what's the difference between a wiki and wyki?

A wyki site -- pronounced wy-ki -- looks like a normal Web portal or online magazine publication, though its content is posted by authors within the user community and automatically organized by advanced software that analyzes content, users and user feedback telemetry, rather than human editors. On a wiki site, such as Wikipedia.com, authors within the community collaborate to add and update definitions for specific terms. The wiki format is more suitable for creating encyclopedias and reference guides whereas the wyki format is better for creating things like Web portals and online magazines. Wyki and wiki site functionality can be combined within a portal.

what's the relationship with social networking?

On a wyki site each item of content - such as a blog post, user guide or multi-media object - displays a byline link to the profile page of the author. Every user that can vote, comment and post content necessarily has a profile page and this page will usually provide indexes into the user's other works and interactions such as voting and commenting. External social networking profile pages on services such as MySpace or Vox can optionally be bonded to the wyki-specific profile page.

do we retain editorial control?

Owners of wyki sites can operate as "professional" members of their community that have extra influence. Backend control panels make it possible to override troublesome users, remove inappropriate content and set objectives and operating parameters for the editorial software.

what is the business model for wyki sites?

A publisher can operate a wyki site to drive new online advertising revenues or to bolster communities associated with existing brands. Corporate communications departments can use wyki sites to support and enhance internal communities, or to create new external communities for users of products and services. Non-profit organizations can use a wyki site as a rallying and communication point for a cause. Individuals can create wyki sites as a low cost way of entering the world of publishing.

what is the purpose of wyki.com?

Wyki.com exists to help publishers, corporations, not-for-profit organizations and individuals to create wyki sites, either to create new revenue positive publications and online communities, or to enhance existing communities.

what is the business model for wyki.com?

Wyki.com can work with you and your organization to assist with the construction of wyki community publications in many different ways. We can supply raw platform technology, ready-made wyki template sites, build services and specialist hosting.

how can I benefit from a wyki.com domained site?

Already several leading brands are in the process of launching wyki.com presences. This page will eventually become a search page and directory of public wyki.com sites. By operating within a community of wyki sites, your wyki will grow traffic faster, and also clearly mark out its purpose to your users.

You will also benefit from powerful platform technology, including the AuthorRank algorithm, developed and tested by publishers creating pioneering sites such as the offical Windows Vista Magazine (see http://www.windowsvistamagazine.com/, launched Feb 2007).

why do users submit content to wyki sites?

Community users can decide to author content on a wyki site for many reasons. Often the satisfaction of self expression may be motivation, but depending on the nature of the wyki, authoring content may also assist with professional credibility or drive publicity for products or services. For example, on a wyki publication serving a vertical business market, commercial operatives and even public relations firms will be able to gain publicity for products and services by posting high quality and relevant content that becomes highly featured, since every item of content that they post appears with a by line link to their own profile or home page.

what is the history of this venture?

The Wyki.com enterprise is backed by a London based company that has been creating large-scale Web publications for leading publishing companies since 2002 (the well known services operation is known as System 7 after the Web, which is the 7th major revolution in publishing technology). During the course of building many leading websites, System 7 realised that sites incorporating community content were nearly always able to grow much faster.

System 7 then worked on an evolution of its platform, dubbed socialType, which made it possible to allow user communities to participate even more directly in the authoring of site content. The latest versions of the socialType platform use advanced new algorithms, including the AuthorRank algorithm, to facilitate software based editorial decisions. Recently socialType became WYKI BUILDER.

The WYKI BUILDER platform is built on Microsoft .NET technologies, and provides flexible and scalable extendibility, together with powerful control over the sites it is used to operate.
